Grand Slam Sunday

It all kicked off at Old Trafford with ManYoo – Liverpool. Build up before the game saw Rafa accusing Sir Alex of trying to get into the referee’s head by making comments that he needed to watch Captain Fantastic’s upcoming raids on Ronaldo. I don’t want to say it all succeeded as anyone could see Mascherano’s sending off coming a mile away, I would have sent him off way earlier, but why wasn’t Fantastic there? or why didn’t Alonso who stood right next to him and saw the bashing try to cut in between? Anyway, I’m sure that Rafa will blame Sir Alex’s tries to get on the good side with the ref, but it was a red – and will always be a red, so no argues there. The main issue was just that United was a better side, a MUCH better side when it was needed the most, this is also why they’re topping the table and Liverpool are struggling to keep fourth place, some 15 points behind. I think it was actually the 7th straight game where Liverpool failed to score at Old Trafford, the last run only being broken by an own goal by O’shea, so who can we blame really? It all ended three nil after two clown-rush outs on corners from Reina, he definately didn’t look very sharp in the air, nor will he ever. But you have to give cudos to the man for saving maybe 3-4 other clear chances that easily would have tallied the scoreline to 5-0 on a horrific day.

Right after the final whistle blew we were off to Stamford Bridge with Andy Gray and Sky Sports “Grand Slam Sunday”, gotta love that name. It has a better tone to it, as Matte said: “Canal+ choose to call it Super Sunday” – lack of creativity from Hegerfors perhaps? Chelsea – Arsenal always looked before as it was going to be the better game out of the two, and indeed it didn’t fail us. Chelsea got the winner, Drogba was completely useless for almost 70 minutes but then bang bang! and suddenly he was every Chelsea fan hero with two goals, game winners as well. It ended 2-1 in the end, Sagna gave Arsenal the lead before the Drogba show started.

I’ve seen a couple of movies this weekend, I just had to see Meet the Spartans, the trailer looked pretty funny but in the end it was more than worthy of its #58 IMDB bottom movies of all times, 2.2 score says it all! Before that I had a Saturday containing of going back a couple of years, first I saw There will be blood which I think swept the floor at the Oscars, Daniel Day Lewis got the Oscar for leading role. Good movie! Unfortunately The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford which I thought was going to be really cool didn’t really live up to the hype, it’s been lifted off the ground by many critics and has a good grade on IMDB, buuuuuuut – no.

Besides that, I spend most of my time either reading up on stuff I need to know for work, or modding a new Hattrick Community I’m building with WordPress. Hopefully it’ll be neeeeat.

Six nations and Poker

Last night was a big night in the Six Nations Rugby Tournament, Ireland took on Scotland and France faced England. It seemed like the Scotsmen had taken over the entire Temple Bar area in Dublin at noon pretty much, men wearing kilts were everywhere! A couple of them were probably a bit too excited over the rugby as well, I’m guessing at least half of the people I met or saw didn’t actually make the game. Anyway, since I was with a lot of French people, we didn’t really care about the Ireland-Scotland game, which would have been a huge deal otherwise, I think that even though we are in Dublin, the Irish was probably I minority this day. We managed to have a good time and drink “a couple” of Guiness as well, ending up in some dodgy pub just outside the city center.

Tonight we had a Poker tournament at Lya’s place. I won the first (20 euros richer!) and actually managed to win the second as well (15+20 euros richer!) :) 2/2, respect!

It’s been a while

Since my last post, I won’t apologize for that! Big things have happened over christmas and new years (happy to all of you for surviving yet another year!); I’ve got a job that involves moving to Dublin, Ireland – and I’ve finally taken my drivings licence! I know, it’s unbelievable, I never thought that day would come, haha.

Last week I was up in Östersund, Mia had her graduation ceremony meaning a lot of people, a lot of good food and too much good wine. Student SkiWeek, the week when all of Sweden’s students come together for an awesome time in Vemdalen and Åre started last Sunday, I went home on Monday – bad timing for sure!

Oh, I’ve seen the worst movie of all times! Treasure Raiders, it stars actor/writer Alexander Nevsky, which is Russia’s answer to Arnold I guess – truly one of the worst actors of all times, writers too of course. I thought that David Carradine (Bill in Kill Bill) would be able to save the movie, but it just didn’t happen. I’d gladly advice you all to rate it 0 (or 1) star at IMDB, we have to warn people! Yeah, and in other movieworld news; Heath Ledger was found dead today, appearently he was really eager to join the “death at 27″-club. Pretty wierd, it seemed as if he was really on top of things after Broke Back, which is another movie I haven’t seen yet, but probably should …

I hope you all saw Sweden’s victory over Spain in the Handball Euro Championships yesterday, it featured one of the most interesting coaching moves in modern times. After being warned for passive play, the Spaniards lined up to take a free throw, which in handball basically means that it’s one pass and then throw, specially under passive play warnings. So all the Swedes just made a wall in front of the thrower (which is of course usually the one that shoots hardest and best), and then came the master move by the Spanish coach – he pulled the goalie! The score was 26-26 and their coach obviously thought that by bringing on an extra attacker, Spain would put some extra pressure on the Swedes the last 10 seconds. However, when it’s a free throw and passive play, that extra attacker won’t be able to help AT ALL. He will just stand somewhere in the crowd, leaving the own goal completely open. This means that it could backfire within seconds – which of course happened. The Swedish keeper Svensson saved the free throw, took the ball and passed it to a Swedish player on the run – and it’s not that hard in handball to score in an open net from nine meters … Heads are probably rolling in the Spanish press today!
