Bond

Gaming

Wow, I just read a couple of really sick things in my consumer behaviour book, listen to this (the book was printed 2004, so it’s a bit old);

The Sims has sold 27 million copies in the three years its’ been on the market. When Halo 2 was released in 2004 Microsoft raked in $125 million its first day on the market, within a month that number was $250 million.

But here’s the thing I’m getting at; Since the release of the first Madden NFL in 1989, its first year on the market – Madden NFL has sold 37 million units at $50 a piece, almost closing in on $2 billion in sales!

And since this book was written there’s been Madden 2005, 2006 and 2007 – and with new consoles such as the XBOX360 hitting the market, the numbers must be … well, unreal.

(This is pretty sick too!)

Each year, shortly before the actual game, EA runs a simulation of the Super Bowl and announces the result:

2004 – Patriots 23, Panthers 20[1] (Actual Score: Patriots 32, Panthers 29)
2005 – Patriots 26, Eagles 21[2] (Actual score: Patriots 24, Eagles 21)
2006 – Steelers 24, Seahawks 19 [3] (Actual score: Steelers 21, Seahawks 10)
2007 – Colts 38, Bears 27 [4] (Actual score: Colts 29, Bears 17)

Exams

Wow, it’s really on at Bond now. Got heaps of assignments that all seem to be due this or next week, of course I’ve saved all of the biggest one for last, it’s just a way of life and the way I am. I never seem to change even though I’ve been saying for 9 semesters that “next semester is going to be different, get all of the major stuff out of the way and just chill before finals” – never happends of course, but it’s still a good philosophy! One I might never live after.

I just had my first final, actually it’s a bit early so the teacher had to call it a quiz, one of my courses is divided into practical and theoretical so we will have to “quizzes” instead of just one final in final week. It’s kind of good, it means that this quiz was worth only 20% and that the next quiz will be in the same region, so you really can’t just fuck up a final totally and lower your grades cause you didn’t have time to study only for that in final week. Anyway, this was the practical part, it consists of doing statistical relationships between variables in SPSS (the worst program ever created by mankind to this date). It’s exactly as fun as it sounds, looking at alpha, Chi-Square and p/f-values is not my future, I’ll tell you that much. It went alright I think, I thought for sure it would be the HD but I’m not so sure anymore since I think I kind of made a fool of myself on the question with the most marks, shiesse. But that question was pretty much the only one I didn’t really understand so it might give me some points and the rest of the exam was pretty much a cruise to the end. Saw a lot of people drawing graphs and shit in Excel, totally unnescessary if you ask the professor which rocks.

New youth system in Hattrick for those interested. Instead of the normal youth pull occuring every sunday, managers are now entitled to choose whether they want the new or old system or both simultaniously. I’m keeping both until all the bugs and some questions have been answered about the new one. The new one consists of each teams getting their own youth team as well, this team is available to play in their own youth league that can be created by users. The team trains and consists of 15-16 year olds that can be rewarded a spot in the senior squad once the turn 17. It’s kind of a cool idea in theory, it will be interesting to see how it works in practise though, I doubt it will make an impact in short term, however over the longer term, with the possibility to train more than one factor each week in the youth team, it might provide some stability to the transfer market which has been crashing for the last year or so.

Just reached the sofas on the fourth floor at Bond, got a Japanese girl next to me sleeping like never before. I’m going to go into dream mode as well before next class I reckon’. Seeya!

Just one more …

Last night was the first big night out for Jessica and John since coming to Australia. Me and the germans first went to Pink Poodle to this “socializing” thingy which turned out to be a complete flop. We should and could have seen it coming miles away since it was organized by the only russian that exists on the Gold Coast. Anyway, after PP we were off to Don’s for the normal thursday chill, however since the JJ’s talked me into coming to Surfers it wasn’t the chill. We went to basically all the major places (all of them being dead which sucked) and had a beer at every place, the most important win of all being when me and John beat Joel and Jessica at pool in Beergarden, completely called for.

I’ll have to take the blame myself since I knew I was getting up at 9 to go to Uni today, but here I am. It’s almost 11 and all I’ve done all morning is hang around Facebook and do nothing, the normal morning chill. Now I’m hungry as never before and just want to go home! Hopefully there are better things to come since I have to stay around until at least eight tonight, gotta finish the theory for our Seaworld assignment, Consumer decision behavior, shit.

Assignments

Yesterday was p-day, p for panic. I had an assignment due today and was hoping that even though the limit was set to 2 pages double spaced (WTF?) I could get away with my 3 pages. However, appearently the assignment was about getting in as much information in as little space as possible, so my professor urged me to cut it down to 2 pages. Disaster. Was done at about 1:30 last night or so, with Joel coming into my room also struggling to find inspiration (he turned to the red wine) for some assignment. It was a normal night for the guys at Bond living in Chamonix to say it in other words. Well, now I’m more or less done it seems, the 2 pages plus the powerpoints (we have to present it too) are done! But unfortunately it’s not like a stone coming off my chest, today is also meeting day with a group about another assignment. Luckily for me, I’m not the driving force of this assignment.

Watched Prison Break last night too, it’s starting to get really cool now. I didn’t think the “on the run” episodes would offer as much as the first season did, but it’s really exciting stuff going on. The silo, the money, Sucre and the kid going completely mad. It might be an all-in one night to get the rest of the episodes, why sit around and wait when there’s Fanpop?

Quick Hattrick news; IFK Ninweborg beat LA Hookers 4-2 yesterday in the Swedish cupfinal. It was not the first time a team from Allsvenskan lost the cupfinal and IFK with unlimited resources (so it seems) completely hammered them even though they were down 1-2 in half time. 175500 spectators came to enjoy the final and it was probably about the same amount that actually was logged in to follow it on HT-live as well, wicked stuff. Another ironic thing was that the final was played on “Daytrading ground”, the homepitch of recently suspended team Fumpen. Fumpen’s manager “karate” which was also the Swedish national team manager got suspended and his team closed down the other week when his team was caught cheating. Niiiiicceee …
