Pure inspiration Torres

We are still holding on! That’s right, “we” as we won today, it should actually always be we now that I think of it. Anyway, 4-1 against Porto and the hopes of qualification are still alive. Torres put the reds ahead twice before Gerrard slotted home a penalty and Crouch made it 4-1.

It’s pretty obvious that under pressure coach Benitez is reaching out to the fans for backing, “Rafa: The win was for the fans” was something that could be read in a Soccernet article after the game.

World Cup 2010

The draw for the qualification rounds for the World Cup in South Africa 2010 was held yesterday. Sweden got a fairly good group along with Portugal, Denmark, Hungary, Albania and Malta. Portugal is by far the hardest opponent, Nani, Ronaldo, Deco and “the Danger Man” Pauleta all have individual skills to threaten Sweden’s lately pretty shaky defence.

Let’s make it six consecutive tournaments!

Teori

As expected

Mclaren sacked as England coach. It’s pretty amazing that PC actually put them back to 2-2 with 20 minutes or so to go, but they still managed to lose the game 2-3 against Croatia. Sweden are through! Allbäck the king – again.

Win or … die!

Tonight’s a big night in football around Europe. England-Croatia and for us swedes Sweden-Latvia are two huge and very important games for the respective managers. I read today that Källström probably will be starting for Sweden, it’s about time that he took the chance this time to stake his place in the starting eleven for years to come. Whether it’s in a 4-5-1 or a 4-4-2 doesn’t really matter for me. Mclaren is taking a chance on Scott Carson and Wright-Philips from start tonight, there sure will be heads roling if they lose against Croatia … but on the other hand, there will be heads roling if Sweden lose against Latvia as well.
